The Rising Threat of Deep Fake Technology: How to Combat It

 Overview

Evolution and ambition are indeed engraved in human nature; hence the strife to reach improved standards of living and lust for research and discovery come to play. Human evolution can be most likely noticed through technological developments and the emerging of ground-breaking innovations that mirror the prowess of human advancements.

Recently we have been noticing considerable developments in various fields, especially AI (artificial intelligence) which plays a major role in revolutionizing numerous operations and has contributed to the improvement of many industries around the world. However, this cutting-edge innovation is a double edged sword as it has its fair share of risks and negative impacts.

One of the most striking features and innovations brought by the incorporation of AI is the deep fake feature which mimics reality via AI technology in a perfect way to the point of being very hard to distinguish from reality. This technology can generate video or photos portraying real people which can pave the way for the spread of misinformation and threaten the safety of some individuals. In order to combat this threat many measures need to be taken.

Deep fake Technology : An Amazing Technological Prowess And a Serious Threat

Human technological developments and achievements have come a long way and managed to reach new horizons making our daily lives easier and led to the improvement of numerous industries through the incorporation of many technologies, most notably AI which paved the way for revolutionizing many businesses and introduced many cutting edge innovations.

Artificial intelligence technology has brought a large array of innovations, particularly the concept of deep fake which is characterized by creating realistic looking social media content such as photos and videos. This innovation plays a major role in showcasing the level of technological advancements brought by the use of AI in numerous fields.

Deep fake innovation is well known for its ability to mimic real people, which can pose a serious threat to society and create a daunting challenge to cybersecurity. In 2022 more than 65% of cybersecurity professionals will have experienced deep fake attacks within their organization.

In recent years the use of  Deep fake generated data increased by almost 900%, particularly between late 2018 and 2020 Also, some experts estimate that this trend will continue in years to come.
